Creating your first Umbel card takes less than five minutes. This guide walks you through each step, from signing up to your first share.
1. Create your account
Go to umbel.me and click Get Started. Enter your email address and create a password, or sign up with Google. You don't need any payment details to create a free account.
2. Complete onboarding
After signing up, Umbel walks you through a short onboarding flow. You'll be asked to:
- Enter your name and job title
- Add your company name
- Upload a profile photo (optional, but recommended)
You can skip any step and complete it later in the card editor.
3. Add your contact details
In the card editor, add the contact information you want people to see:
- Phone number — your mobile or direct line
- Email address — a professional address works best
- Website — your company site, portfolio, or LinkedIn profile
- Social links — LinkedIn, Instagram, X, WhatsApp, or anything else
You can add as many links as you need, and each link can be given a custom label so recipients know exactly what they're tapping. See Add links to your card for the full guide.
4. Customise your design
The card editor gives you full control over how your card looks:
- Brand colours — set your primary colour with a hex code or the colour picker
- Typography — choose from the full Google Fonts library
- Banner image — add a branded cover image, or leave it minimal
- Profile photo — a clean, professional headshot makes a strong first impression
If your organisation uses Umbel for teams, your admin may have applied a template to your card. In that case some fields are locked, and you'll only be able to edit the ones marked as open.
5. Set your action button
The action button is the primary call to action on your card:
- Save Contact — recipients save your details to their address book in one tap
- Lead Capture — recipients submit their details to you through a branded form
- Custom Link — send recipients to any URL you choose
For most people starting out, Save Contact is the right choice. Read more in Set your action button.
6. Share it
Once your card is ready, you can share it with a QR code, a direct link, Apple Wallet, or an NFC card. See Share your card for when to use each.
Tips for a strong first card
- Use a professional headshot with a clean background
- Keep the card focused — only add links your contacts will actually use
- Pick a colour that matches your brand or industry
- Update your card the moment your details change — everyone with your link sees the update instantly
